BEYOND THE PAIN

It's dark again.

And I know you still  feel the same

Because it has never left you

Just like a shadow lost in the underground.

Your face is a mirror of loneliness

And aloneness.

And you walked alone in the dark alley of this subway

As the winds begin to catch the last thread of your old jacket

And the first whisper of autumn winds creep in your faded pants,

I know, you are still in pain.

And the roads seemed so blurred and dark, too

Because tears swallowed the light

And the last drop of hope was lost

Amidst the deafening silence of a troubled soul.

The pavement was cold like your stare

And as the train closes its door

Your heart was slammed by the pages of an old book

And the hazy shade of people passing

Like a procession of memories of long ago

And your tears begin to fall

And you know, deep inside of you

There is pain.

You were looking for the old friends

Like bookends and like dried leaves sandwiched

By old pages of a jeweled book;

I tried to see beyond the tears

But my vision was also blurred

By the same pain

Of loneliness

And aloneness.

I know, it is winter.
