Waiting for Advent

Waiting,

Like Nanay Deding waiting for Tatay Larry

Who went fishing one moonless night

Hoping that squids and lobsters would fill the boat

For another day of struggle to fill up the gaps of life.

Like the caterpillar

Selflessly giving his all

To one day see the cocoon

Become a butterfly

And be a hope for the flowers.

Like the candle that lits the dark corner

Of an empty room and an empty soul

Burning itself to die

Giving all for the sake of the other.

Waiting for Advent

After a freezing wind dampens the body of a boy

Looking for a father who never came back

After promising a kite for summer.

When one gets old and the bones complain

Advent is not mere candles of violet and pink

But of something more closer to the heart

It is actually longing for God to ease some pain

And make the manger alive again

It is life, no more, no less.
