Beyond Borders...
And we sat quietly on this park bench
While the crowd disappeared with the early winter breeze
And the three of us, in stillness,
Listened to each others' sigh.
And one remembered his Allah
And the other strummed his guitar
And played a cool Dylan tune
While I whispered to my Jesus
A prayer beyond borders.
And one marveled Creation in awe
While the other just sang his song,
And I said to myself,
"It is possible for the east and the west
To meet and stay together
Transcending walls, building bridges
Beyond borders.."
Sometimes, in our quiet you could hear
The soft steps of people in a carefully manicured park lawn
The distant breathing of a late-afternoon city jogger
The fading sound of a speeding cab;
Sometimes, we just sat speechless,
For a friend is someone you can be silent with.
But then
We sang, we dreamt, we laughed...
But there was an unspoken word of sadness, of coming goodbyes.
But lo and behold, one said, "we needed goodbyes
For Advent to come, for hello's to be born..."
And I was shocked because he now talked of Advent and the Manger
And the Baby in the Manger in his heart
While the other, of the Cross deep inside
Waiting for his Christmas, waiting for his Easter.
Within me was a tear of joy, only my God could understand
Only my God could feel the simple scheme of a simple dream
Because somewhere across this skyline
We shared our Faiths, we crossed our paths
Yet we traveled the same Road
And gave life another meaning
Beyond borders...
